Most questions are about the same handful of things. If yours is not here, email us — it reaches the developers, not a queue.
Finding your swimmer
- I searched for my child and got nothing.
- Search looks across recent meets, so a swimmer who has not raced in a while may not appear. Try From a meet instead: open a meet the club attended and follow directly from the start list. A swimmer who has genuinely never raced will not be findable — the federation has nothing published for them yet.
- There are two swimmers with my child's name.
- Pick the one whose club matches. LaneStory identifies swimmers by the federation’s own id, never by name, so once you have followed the right one a namesake cannot contaminate their results — even if they later change clubs.
- Can I rename a swimmer?
- Yes. Long-press the swimmer in Following and choose Nickname. It changes only what you see; the underlying identity and results are untouched.
Race day
- The live view says the meet is paused.
- Between sessions — lunch, or overnight at a multi-day meet — the timing page keeps showing the last heat that finished. Rather than present a stale heat as if it were current, LaneStory says the meet is paused. It returns to LIVE on its own when swimmers are back in the water.
- My countdown was wrong.
- Sessions run early and late; that is the sport, not a bug. LaneStory reads the per-heat programme rather than the session start time, and adjusts when the meet drifts. If a meet has published no detailed programme, the app will say the time is approximate instead of inventing precision.
- No live timing at this meet.
- Not every meet is timed electronically, and smaller ones often publish results only afterwards. The Live tab appears when the meet’s own system is publishing; when it is not, results arrive under Results.
Times and standards
- A qualifying time looks out of date.
- Federations revise standards between seasons, and LaneStory shows a warning when its catalogue may be behind. The app always tells you it is unsure rather than quietly measuring against an old number.
- A personal best is missing.
- A time only counts once the federation publishes it, which can take a day or two after a meet. Pull to refresh; if it is still missing a week later, send us the swimmer and the meet.
Subscription
- What is free?
- Every meet, programme, start list and result, plus one followed swimmer and their personal bests. That data is public and stays free.
- What does Plus add?
- Race-day notifications, the full live pool view, unlimited swimmers and clubs, progress curves and qualifying plans. The free trial runs 30 days — deliberately long enough to include a real race day, because that is the only way to judge whether it is worth paying for.
- How do I cancel?
- Through your App Store or Google Play subscription settings, like any other subscription. We cannot cancel it for you and never see your payment details.
Which app do I need?
One per country, each reading that country's own federation data:
- 🇳🇴 LaneStory Norway — Norway
- 🇩🇰 LaneStory Danmark — Denmark
Follow the country whose meets your child swims in. More countries are in development.
Still stuck
Email support@lanestory.com. Telling us the swimmer's club and the meet name gets you a useful answer far faster than a screenshot alone.
